How to combine participation and efficiency? Democracy really is about giving power, not taking it.
« 15O » (Saturday 15 October) is global action day for true democracy. On this occasion, citizens of Berlin will be walking through Berlin to express their dreams of true democracy and claim that another world is possible. On our way, we will be asking the people, locals and tourists, “What is “true” democracy” and “How do we achieve true democracy”, so to generate debate on the streets and raise political awareness amongst people.
In order to prepare for this action, members of the Empörten Bewegung, Echte Demokratie Jetzt, but also the Spanish and Greek Outraged Assemblies will be gathering in Mauerpark on Sunday 9 October to spread “Words on the Street”.
This action, known as “Porteur de Paroles” in France were it was invented, consists of asking people on the street a question about the world, society, politics, philosophy or whatever subjected related to the people’s lives. A big sign is set up with the question written on it and, after a discussion, we offer each and everyone to write is answer on a sign which is then posted next to the question. This way, a coloured landscape of thoughts and word emerges, as we reoccupy the public space and fill it with debate amongst citizens… experiencing the basis for true democracy.
Come and join us on Sunday 9 October in Mauerpark at 15:00. Tell us what you think about “true” democracy, write a sign of yours or go ask complete strangers what they think about; meet new people and new ideas, discuss, share your experience, your dreams and your fears as we get united for Global Change and True Democracy on 15O.
